Having finished the heats for the gala, details will be posted shortly of those who got through to the finals. In the meantime here are some notes :-

GALA DETAIL: 7.30 START

Please note that on the nights of the gala 21 October and 23 October we will only hold swimming lessons from 7.00-7.20. If your normal lesson commences at 7.00 please come along, if your lesson commences 7.30 or 8.00 please do not come on either of these nights unless you are competing,

The Gala events will commence at 7.30 on each night.

Tuesday 21 October All Girls Single Events

Plus

Boys Championships

Thursday 23 October All Boys Single Events

Plus

Girls Championships

Trophy presentations will be held on both nights following completion of all the events.

The time-scale for these nights is tight and we need to keep on schedule. If you are entering any of the events please ensure that you are ready to take your places on the poolside by 7.30 – if you arrive late you may miss your event.

The club AGM will be held on Monday 10th November – all welcome. Please contact Yvonne for further details or ask on club nights.

Advance notice – the club’s sponsored swim will be held on 27th and 29th January 2009.

Adrian Sudbury was a reporter for both the Huddersfield Express and Chronicle Series and the Huddersfield Examiner. In November 2006 the 25-year-old was promoted to digital journalist, effectively editing the new-look Examiner website. Just two days into his new role he became seriously ill and called in sick. A week later he drove himself to A&E and was eventually diagnosed with leukaemia. It was then identified that he actually had two distinct types of the disease running at the same time. According to the medical literature he was the only person in the world to have this condition. As such, it was not possible to offer Adrian a prognosis. On his blog he shared his experiences of the disease and his treatment up until he died on 20th August 2008.

The heats for the Swimming Gala are to be held on the 7th and 9th October. Forms are now available on club nights.

Pool Frog 1 and Pool Frog 2 swimmers will not be swimming on either of these heats nights as those entering the gala will be doing time trials.

Those wishing to enter the Gala heats can only have one attempt – so they come on EITHER Tuesday or Thursday – not both nights. Finalists are decided on time only, not placing in the heats.

Only regular attenders are eligible to enter the gala.

The Gala itself will be held over two Club nights the 21st and 23rd October.

Age groups are based on age at 21st October 2008

Novices – age 7 & 8 who have not previously entered a gala
Junior – age 9 and under
Inter – ages 10, 11 and 12
Senior – age 13 and up.

You can enter 2 strokes + the championships

12 and under championship is 3 lengths (1 each stroke)
Open championship is 6 lengths (2 each stroke)

Previous winners are asked to return trophy’s over the next few weeks – many thanks.

To clarify – here are the clothing requirements for the seal series :-

Seal 1 – Short sleeved shirt, long trousers

Seal 2 – Long sleeved shirt, long trousers

Seal 3 – Long sleeved shirt, long sleeved jumper/sweatshirt, long trousers

Seal 4 – as seal 3 PLUS t-shirt/vest, socks and pumps/trainers. Yes it’s hard!

In all cases jeans or pyjamas are not allowed. If in doubt see your coach.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the recent swimming for fun sessions (if the noise was anything to go by) and lots of swimmers came out tired and happy. Job done!.

Woggle races were also great fun for the spectators.

This programme now runs through August (see post below).

The pool will still be open on Tuesdays for normal public sessions between 7pm and 9pm. There are also special sessions including “splat”, “pirates” and “2 fast 2 furious” at Holmfirth Pool over the summer. Pick up a special programme from reception.

This summer we are running our “Swim For Fun” Sessions during the summer holidays.

Due to holiday commitments of both coaches and children we do not follow our normal teaching programme. We offer a “structured” Swim for Fun session. The children participate in supervised swimming related pool games.

These will commence on Thursday 24th July up to and including Thursday 28th August.

These sessions would run as follows (if confused ask Yvonne/Vicky for clarification) :-

7.00-7.20 Pool Frog 1 and Pool Frog 2 Normal lessons
7.20-8.00 Pool Frog 1 and Pool Frog 2 Groups commence Swim For Fun sessions
7.20-8.15 All swimmers with Pool Frog 3 and above Swim for Fun sessions
8.15-9.00 Adult Swimming

Note this is THURSDAYS only. We will NOT be having a club night on the following Tuesdays :-

29 July
5/12/19 and 26th August
Sessions resuming as normal on Tuesday 2 September
