Sponsored Swim Night

January 23rd, 2009

Just a reminder that Tuesday 27 and Thursday 29th is our Sponsored Swim Night

Sponsorship is entirely optional

Those children who swim in the shallow end at 7.00 (Pool Frog 1 and Pool Frog 2 lessons) should not attend.

ALL other children should be on the Pool Side ready to commence their swim at 7.00. They will be allowed to swim until 9.00 pm

The pool will be roped off into lanes. Children will be allocated a lane in which to swim (this will be dependant upon the distance they feel they will achieve).

The swimmer is given a number.

They then enter the Pool at the deep end and swim.

When they get back to the deep end they should shout out their number and this is written on a sheet.

It is important that they do not touch the side or end of the pool, or that their feet touch the bottom.

Basically they swim in circles (within their lanes) until they have had enough

Any stroke can be used and the stroke can be changed at any time they can also tread water if they need to rest.

Please look at the table below to ensure that your child does not leave the pool too early to attain the badge required

For example a child swimming 19 lengths will only be able to have a 200 metre certificate which is equivalent to 10 lengths

A children swimming 20 lengths (20 metres more) will be able to have a 400 metre certificate.

Any number of badges can be purchased up to the level achieved. These are £2 each

A General Certificate will be awarded to each entrant stating how many lengths and metres they have swam. This can be shown to those people who sponsor your child.

If your child is being sponsored please bring in the sponsorship money as soon as possible after the event

The money will be split 50% to Club Funds, 50% to “The Sign Up For Sudders” Appeal

Recommendations

Ø Please remember that the Pool is 20 metres long

Ø We are able to award certificates for certain distances do not leave the pool until you have completed the correct number of lengths – remember if you swim 9 lengths this is 20 metre (1 length) short of your 200 metre award – you will only get a 100 metre award.

Ø If possible leave the pool at the deep end – attract the attention of a Marshall to ask how many more lengths they feel you should complete for the next badge stage.

Ø You can leave the pool at any time you wish

Ø You must not touch the bottom of the pool or the sides during your swim – full lengths must be swam – you can change your stroke or tread water at any time.

Ø PLEASE RESPECT OTHER SWIMMERS – DO NOT BLOCK OR KICK THEM – YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE POOL IF IT IS THOUGHT THAT YOU ARE DOING THIS.
